It was mid November of 2010, just before the new year, that finalized the conception of Kontrast™. A handful of carefully selected companies were contacted to help sponsor the event. The superhighway of today’s cutting edge design portfolios, Behance™, frontlined the list of sponsors; other companies such as Think AV, Filter Digital, MacForce joined in to help make this event a reality. This seminar took place on February 4th, and it pulled together some of the industry-leading designers, producers, and visual artists to showcase a fantastic blend of aural and visual.

I had a blast messing around with my new 8mm app, and put together a little highlight reel of our trip:

Music: The Go Team – “Apollo Throwdown” (Star Slinger Remix)

Other highlights: Creative Mornings, getting halfway-swindled in Times Square, standing 3 feet away from this poster, full bellies, tired feet, Toddla T. and Canblaster, and hanging with Leopold the Dog. (His owners were pretty fantastic, too).

It was grand; we had great company, great eats, and neat sights to see. It was the perfect break from our quiet home in California – a loud, bustling, concrete jungle we got to explore for the first time, together.

Naturally, we only took <5 photos of ourselves and have a CF card with a slew of found type. Here’s the latter. If you like what you see, check out this new blog I found literally the eve before we left: NYC Type.

We’ll be visiting museums and studios, attending workshops, sleeping on trains, and rubbing shoulders with the likes of Wolfgang Weingart (what?!), among others. Needless to say we’re super excited for our trip, and are working on some fun things to share it with you while we’re away.

One exhibition I’m especially excited for is Wim Crouwel’s first UK retrospective. Check out these behind-the-scenes photos from Unit Edition’s blog.

The studio evolves in various creative areas such as art-direction, graphic design, photography, typography and motion design, for both personal or commissioned works.

So far, Ill-Studio has collaborated with various clients such as Nike, Supreme NYC, The New York Times Magazine, Cire Trudon, GQ, Orange, Institubes, Christophe Lemaire, Adidas, Uniqlo, and Domus magazine to name a few.
